Why go to Broken Group Islands
The Broken Group Islands are an archipelago of more than 100 islands and islets in Barkley Sound, part of Pacific Rim National Park Reserve on the west coast of Vancouver Island. The islands are reachable only by boat; paddlers launch from the Toquaht Nation's Secret Beach Campground and Kayak Launch, or ride Broken Islands Lodge's scheduled boat to protected water just north of the group.
Overnight camping runs from May 1 to September 30 at designated areas on six islands, with permits booked only through the Parks Canada Reservation System. Stays are capped at 14 days in the islands and four nights at any one camping area, and groups at 12 people. Parks Canada suggests May, June or September for quieter trips than the July and August peak.
