Ship & Anchor Pub

The Ship & Anchor has been a fixture on 17th Avenue SW for decades, and Savour Calgary calls it the go-to hang for cool kids since the '90s. Its big street-side patio, which Travel Alberta counts among the most iconic in the city and Daily Hive called a sun trap, fills up before, after and during a night out, and the room inside stays lively with live music, soccer matches and punk rock bingo nights.

The kitchen turns out hearty pub food with a few detours. The Ship Burger is a local institution, and stir-fries and curries sit alongside the usual pub plates. Savour Calgary recommends the grilled cheese on cheese sourdough with confit garlic butter, with rasher bacon, gorgonzola or cotija as add-ons. The pub placed #27 on Canada's 50 Best Bars in 2023, and Avenue Calgary readers voted it a winner in the magazine's 2025 Best Restaurants.
