Moccione
Villeray, Montréal
Luca Cianciulli's Italian cooking in Villeray, with homemade, seasonal pasta.
Why go to Moccione
Moccione began in late 2018 as a 24-seat room on Rue Villeray, the first restaurant from chef Luca Cianciulli and Maxime Landry, named for the Cianciulli family nickname. After the pandemic the team moved it to a larger space on Rue Saint-Denis, renovated largely by hand, and reopened in June 2022 with a warm room and a terrace Tastet calls magnificent. Cianciulli's philosophy, as he told Tastet, is to serve what the team would want to eat every day.
The menu follows the Italian order of antipasti that change with the seasons, primi of pasta made by hand on site, which Tastet called simply divine, and secondi of meat, fish and seafood. Tastet earlier picked out the gnocchi and tiramisu, and Landry's cannoli close the meal. The wine list centres on Italy and the rest of Europe, balancing natural and conventional bottles, and the cocktails make a good aperitif. Moccione placed #28 on Canada's 100 Best Restaurants in 2023.
