Canada's natural history museum in the Victoria Memorial Museum Building, with dinosaurs and a blue whale
Why go to Canadian Museum of Nature
The Canadian Museum of Nature occupies the Victoria Memorial Museum Building on McLeod Street, a stone building designed by federal Chief Architect David Ewart and built between 1905 and 1911. After fire destroyed Parliament's Centre Block in 1916, the building housed the Parliament of Canada until 1920, and it was designated a national historic site in 1990.
Destination Canada describes natural history and science spread over seven galleries, from the ocean floor upward, with mammals, birds, insects, reptiles, minerals, dinosaur fossils and a blue whale skeleton. Canadian Geographic singles out its dinosaur, geology, mammal, bug and bird collections. The museum also runs tours, workshops and 3D films, plus a monthly evening event. Daytime adult admission is $26, and the museum stays open until 8 pm on Thursdays.
