Toronto's museum of art, culture and nature since 1914, with about 18 million objects and Libeskind's Crystal
Why go to Royal Ontario Museum
The Royal Ontario Museum was created by provincial law in 1912 and opened to the public on Queen's Park in March 1914. It holds about 18 million artworks, cultural objects and natural history specimens, shown across some 40 gallery and exhibition spaces. Destination Toronto describes it as Canada's largest museum, and Destination Canada calls it the biggest museum of world cultures and natural history in the country.
Two buildings meet here. The heritage Weston Entrance on Queen's Park leads to a Rotunda whose dome is a mosaic of Venetian glass, while the Michael Lee-Chin Crystal, designed by Daniel Libeskind, opened in 2007 in a shape that resembles a giant crystal. Time Out singles out the dinosaur galleries along with collections that run from Indigenous art to modern fashion. Tickets are sold online, and prices vary by day on the museum's ticketing calendar.
