Why go to Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology
The Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology stands in Midland Provincial Park, 6 km northwest of Drumheller. It is named for Joseph Burr Tyrrell, a Geological Survey of Canada geologist who found a 70 million year old dinosaur skull near present day Drumheller on August 12, 1884. The museum opened on September 25, 1985, received its royal title in 1990, and describes itself as Canada's only museum dedicated exclusively to the study of ancient life.
Canadian Geographic counts some 800 fossils on permanent display, organized by era, and notes that the Dinosaur Hall holds one of the largest mounted dinosaur displays in the world, including Triceratops and T. rex. Afar says the museum has one of the world's largest collections of dinosaur remains, and National Geographic points families to its fossil casting activities. Adult admission is $25, and from September to mid May the museum opens Tuesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
