Why go to Royal Alberta Museum
The Royal Alberta Museum first opened to the public on December 6, 1967, and on October 3, 2018 it moved into a 419,000 square foot building in downtown Edmonton, which the museum and Travel Alberta call the largest museum in western Canada. Global News reported that the project cost $375.5 million and gave the museum 82,000 square feet of exhibition space.
The Natural History Hall covers millions of years of Alberta's past, with a mammoth skeleton among its displays, and the Human History Hall shows how Indigenous communities pass on knowledge and introduces people who shaped the province, from cowboys to oil field workers. The Bug Gallery keeps live insects, the Children's Gallery has a dig pit and hands-on activities, and a Feature Gallery hosts visiting international exhibitions. Adult admission is $25 for ages 18 to 64.
