Fox & Monocle

Fox & Monocle sits in Canoe Cove Marina in North Saanich, close to the Swartz Bay ferry terminal, and works two shifts: a counter-service bakery and café from morning until it sells out, then a restaurant in the evening from Thursday to Sunday. The kitchen is led by chef Ross Bowles and pastry chef Tracie Zahavich, who both worked in Michelin-recognized restaurants before settling on the marina.

Its cooking leans toward European comfort food. Air Canada enRoute, which ranked Fox & Monocle #9 among Canada's Best New Restaurants in 2022, pointed to a cod and potato pithivier and BC spot prawns. By day the counter is all baking, with a cake menu for special orders and special dinners such as a beef roast through the year.
