Teatro Ristorante
Downtown, Calgary
Italian dining in the former Dominion Bank, with a wine cellar in the old vault.
Why go to Teatro Ristorante
Teatro has occupied the 1911 Dominion Bank building beside Olympic Plaza since 1993, when Italian-born owner Dario Berloni opened it in the sandstone landmark he had bought years earlier. Visit Calgary counts it among the city's most dramatic dining rooms: 22-foot ceilings, white columns and seats for about 250, with the award-winning wine cellar set inside the old bank vault and an outdoor patio serving lunch and dinner.
The cooking is contemporary Mediterranean rooted in Italian tradition. Montecristo magazine describes a menu that runs from approachable pastas and pizzas to richer plates such as duck and pork belly, finishing with a tiramisu made from the Berloni family's recipe from the Marche. The cellar holds close to 10,000 bottles with a focus on Italy and Bordeaux, and Gambero Rosso awarded Teatro one Forchetta in its 2022 Top Italian Restaurants guide.
