Bottega Pizzeria
Little Italy, Montréal
Neapolitan pizzeria in Little Italy, wood-fired in an oven from Naples.
Why go to Bottega Pizzeria
Bottega opened on Rue Saint-Zotique in Little Italy in 2006, and the Covone family still runs it. The name means artisan's shop in Italian, and Tastet stresses that everything is made in house. The room seats about 75 at white-clothed tables, with a few bar seats, a wooden wine wall and a terrace for about 50, and the centrepiece is a large Acunto oven from Naples with the Bottega name set in its ceramic.
Giovanna Covone and her son Fabrizio develop most of the recipes. Tastet, which called this the best Neapolitan pizza in Montreal, favours the margherita and a white pizza with rapini and house sausage; another pairs porcini and arugula with a basil oil, and stuffed versions fold in prosciutto cotto and eggplant. Small plates, or sfizi, include arancini, polpette and grilled shrimp, and the reviewer counted the meatballs among the best they had eaten. Gambero Rosso awarded Bottega one Spicchio in its 2023 Top Italian Restaurants guide.
