Drift
Downtown, Halifax
Atlantic Canadian cooking in the Muir building, a modern take on regional fare.
Why go to Drift
Drift fills the main level of the Muir hotel at Queen's Marque on the Halifax waterfront, with a salon, a bar and a promenade that Tourism Nova Scotia describes as a simple, modern, stylish setting to dine, drink and linger. It opened in 2021 to put Nova Scotia and Atlantic Canadian cooking front and centre, with ingredients from local farmers, fishers and artisans, and runs from breakfast through brunch, lunch, dinner and a bar open until midnight.
Chef Anthony Walsh, the creative culinary lead behind many of the dishes, shapes menus that reinterpret familiar Maritime food. Huddle singled out the Nova Scotia Hodgepodge with lobster, Matane shrimp and haddock, alongside Newfoundland cod au gratin, steamed PEI mussels and a kitchen that dries and pickles seaweed for its seasonings. There is a raw bar and a hot lobster pot pie, local spirits and craft beer, and a wine list past 100 bottles. Drift placed #57 on Canada's 100 Best Restaurants in 2023.
