Why go to Île Flottante
Île Flottante opened on Rue Saint-Viateur in Mile End in late 2017, in the former home of Les Deux Singes de Montarvie, run by co-owners Nada Abu Younes and chef Sean Murray Smith. Architect Alain Carle redesigned the 48-seat room, four of them at the bar, with light hardwood floors, navy walls, modern art and a glassed-in kitchen where guests can watch the team cook. The MICHELIN Guide describes a neighbourhood bistro feel set off by painted wood panelling.
The cooking leans on vegetables, with meat and fish as availability allows, and the menu can change daily. The MICHELIN Guide describes a nightly carte blanche with international influences, highlighting a Pacific bluefin tuna tartare, a celeriac parmigiana and a reworked take on the île flottante dessert the restaurant is named for. Tastet praised the elaborate plating and original flavours. The wine list favours small and mid-sized producers, and the cocktails change almost weekly. Île Flottante placed #50 on Canada's 100 Best Restaurants in 2023.
