Le Serpent
Griffintown, Montréal
Michele Mercuri's Italian-leaning Griffintown brasserie, with a deep wine list.
Why go to Le Serpent
Le Serpent fills a former metal works inside Griffintown's Darling Foundry, in the space once held by Le Cluny, and takes its name from the building's spiral chimney, which earned it the nickname the snake. The 95-seat room, including a 12-seat bar, was designed by co-owner Hubert Marsolais with Annie Lebel in calm greys and industrial materials, with pipe-like lights over the bar, big artworks and large windows that pour in daylight. Marsolais and Claude Pelletier are also behind Club Chasse et Pêche.
Chef Michele Mercuri cooks contemporary Italian food: small bites and starters, risottos, pastas that Tastet singled out, and a different rotisserie dish for each day of the week, with desserts from pastry chef Masami Waki worth saving room for. Head sommelier Philippe Boisvert runs a list of about 250 wines mixing SAQ picks and private imports. Le Serpent placed #93 on Canada's 100 Best Restaurants in 2023, and Gambero Rosso awarded it one Forchetta the same year.
