Markham
20,000 sq ft of bouldering, 48 auto belays and a 23 ft dragon over a foam pit
Why go to Hub Climbing Markham
Hub Climbing Markham opened in the summer of 2014 near Highway 7 and Woodbine, and Ontario Climbing reported at the time that it would serve the Markham area with almost 18,000 square feet of floor space. Today the gym describes itself as a 20,000 square foot facility built around bouldering, with boulder archways and a large area set aside for kids and new climbers. BlogTO calls Hub primarily a bouldering gym, and Destination Ontario lists it among the best indoor climbing gyms in the province.
The centrepiece is a 23 foot dragon, a free bouldering challenge over a foam pit that the gym recommends for climbers 18 and older after a falls test. For roped climbing there are 48 auto belays, which need a harness and a short orientation. Stronger climbers can train on four boards: a hydraulic spray wall, a Kilter Board, a Tension Board 2 and a Moon Board. A day pass is $24.85 plus HST, with rentals extra.
