Farm-to-bowl chicken ramen from a Tochigi-born chef, using Ancaster-raised birds
Why go to Menya Kyu
Menya Kyu is a ramen shop on James Street South run by chef Yoshiyuki Aiba, who comes from Tochigi, Japan. Destination Ontario describes it as a farm-to-bowl restaurant that builds its bowls on local ingredients.
The signature is Jidori ramen, made with chickens raised at Fenwood Farm in Ancaster. Diners choose between a clear chicken broth, the Jidori Chintan, and a creamy one, the Jidori Paitan, and there is also a plant-based ramen and gluten-friendly rice bowls. The restaurant says all of its ramens are free of eggs, nuts, shellfish, dairy and MSG, and it was a Hamilton Spectator Readers' Choice Diamond winner in 2024 and 2025.
