A.Bento

A.Bento opened on West Broadway in 2020, in the former Shaolin Noodle House space, with chef and owner Jian (Aaron) Zhou cooking his own modern take on Taiwanese food. The name nods to the Taiwanese bento box, and the boxes remain the solo diner's order: black pepper beef brisket, pork ragù or house-made Taiwanese sausage, each with rice and two daily sides, in what the Vancouver Guardian called a comfortable, welcoming room.

The Chinese Restaurant Awards named A.Bento a Top 50 Honouree on its Elite 30 Canada list for 2025, and the rest of the menu is built for sharing. The Vancouver Guardian found the kitchen strongest on soups and sauces, praising a braised beef noodle soup with tender shank and tangy pickled mustard greens, a clear bamboo shoot and sparerib broth, cumin lamb with soft lotus buns and the crisp Taiwanese chicken nuggets.
