Why go to Chengdu Street Food
Chengdu Street Food, known in Chinese as a cangying guanzi or hole-in-the-wall, brings Sichuan home cooking to Alderbridge Way, with sister restaurants in Toronto and Montreal. The Infatuation described a casual room dressed as an old-school Chengdu street, complete with faux brick dividers, and found it worth the trip to Richmond because the kitchen knows when to pull back on heat and let deeper flavours come through.
Bring a group and order widely. The Infatuation recommended a garlicky fish soup brightened with pickled mustard greens, the classic mapo tofu, boiled beef and stir-fried green beans, and above all the laziji fried chicken, fragrant, numbing and citrusy from red and green Sichuan peppercorns. The Chinese Restaurant Awards named Chengdu Street Food, across its Richmond and Toronto locations, a Top 50 Honouree on its Elite 30 Canada list for 2025.
